Prayers of Intercession - The Feast of Candlemas

La presentación de Cristo en el templo, Kelly Latimore

Prayers of Intercession written for the Choral Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 2nd February 2023. The Feast of Candlemas. Based on texts from Malachi 3.1-5, Psalm 24, Hebrews 2.14-end and Luke 2.22-40.

Guided by the Spirit let us pray to God our Father, in the company of His Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ;

That we might wait for your coming again, as faithfully as Simeon and Anna waited.
We pray for the whole church and especially those who worship at risk to their own lives.
May we glow as beacons of your Good News, fanning the flames of your love all around us.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

That the leaders of the world might look to you as a sign for the falling and rising of many.
We pray for an end to injustice, war and conflict especially in Ukraine, East Africa, Afghanistan and Iraq.
May we radiate your perfect peace in all we think, say and do.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

That the King of Glory may come in to the gates of this City.
We pray especially for relief for all who are cold, hungry and without adequate shelter; for the lonely and isolated.
May we illuminate every dark corner of this land with your merciful loving kindness.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

That all who are being tested in suffering may find strength in Him who was also tested.
We remember all those for whom our prayers have been asked, including Melvyn, Stefan, John, Patrick, Sam, Martin, Sophia; Jonathan and family; Carole, Peter, Francine and Caroline; Juliet and family; Michael, Kath and Claire; Dorothy, Kyle, Julie, David, Peter; Kate, David and the community of St Mark’s Hamilton Terrace all those whose names are written on our hearts.
May we kindle your hope and strength in the hearts of our brothers and sisters in need.

Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

That all who have seen your salvation may depart in peace and enter into your heavenly kingdom.
We pray for those close to death, for all the faithful departed and for those whose years mind falls at this time.
May we blaze with the fire of your spirit as we follow their path, to you.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
