Prayers of Intercession - One Family

Emmanuel Garibay - Emmaus,  2000

Prayers written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 9th June 2021 (Year B, First after Trinity) based on readings from
2 Corinthians 4.13-5.1 and Mark 3.20-end

We gather as brothers and sisters in Christ; so let us pray to God our Father, giving thanks for the light of His Son, the guidance of His Spirit and the promise of everlasting life.

God our Father, by whose Spirit we are renewed each day in faith, hope and love; we pray for your church throughout the world. As we celebrate the reopening of the City churches today we ask for your blessing on the ministry of Sarah our Bishop, Luke our Archdeacon, Katherine our Area Dean and our brothers and sisters in the churches of the Square Mile. We give thanks for the riches of this glorious inheritance and pray for the courage to continue to share it, so that more and more people might join in praising your name.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

God our Father, whose very nature is the model of the most perfect unity, we pray for an end to division amongst our brothers and sisters around the world. As the G7 nations prepare to meet, send down your wisdom on its delegates so that they may do your will; bringing relief to those held captive by the effects of the coronavirus, climate change and the abuse of political and economic power.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

God our Father, whose Son died so that all creation might be brought into a new relationship with you, we ask for your blessing on our families, friends and all our brothers and sisters in this city. We pray especially for those who have been rejected by their families; for Craig and all who are homeless. Help us to see our neighbours through your eyes; the potential, the possibilities in all your people. Guide the work of the Lord Mayor, the Corporation of London, businesses and charities in this City. May we bring love, joy and hope to those parts of our community where it is most in need.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

God our Father, we hold before you in prayer our brothers and sisters who are sick and suffering this day and all those who care for them, especially Jonathan, Georgina, Shelley, Caroline and Manuelle, Emma, John, Vanessa, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, John, Jim, Nick, Martin and Sam and all those whose names are written on our own hearts.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

God our Father, into your hands we commend our brothers and sisters who have recently departed this life, including Shirley Fitzgerald. Comfort her family and friends and all who mourn in the knowledge that as you raised up your Son, you will raise up all your faithful to join you, in your eternal kingdom.

Merciful Father
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
