Prayers of Intercession - Track and Trace the Risen Christ

Doubting Thomas, Michael Smither, 1968

Prayers written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 15th April 2021 (Year B, Easter 2) based on readings from
John 20.19-end and giving thanks for the life of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

As Thomas tracked and traced the wounds of the Risen Christ, may we be bold enough to bring our doubts and fears, our delights and disappointments, our needs and thanks to the Lord our God, in prayer.

Almighty God,

As we rejoice in the light of your Risen Son, we give thanks for your blessing on all who have not seen and yet have come to believe. We pray for the faithful in this City and throughout the world; for the recently baptised and for our Bishops, Priests and Deacons. May all who have received your Spirit find new life in your name.

Let the doors of your church be always open to those with questions and doubts; may all who come looking for the risen Lord this day, discover that they have already been found.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer

Loving God,

Your Risen Son appeared to the disciples and said “Peace be with you”.

May your Spirit be the roadmap that guides the leaders of the world, this nation and this City towards your gift of perfect peace.

Forgive us for the times we have failed to follow you; when we have not acted with love towards our neighbours; for the enmity and injustice we have caused.

Unlock the doors we have closed around our lives; send us out to track, trace and transmit your living Word.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer

Living God,

Whose Risen Son suffered and died to save us, inject our hearts with compassion for all who are sick and suffering. We pray especially for Eleanor, John, Vanessa, Peter, Caroline and Manuelle, Adrian, Jennifer and her family and all those whose names are written only on our own hearts.

May the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, bring us to wholeness, guide us to your strength in times of pain, ever confident in your loving kindness.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer

Eternal God,

Whose Risen Son has revealed to us the glory of the resurrection life,

receive with mercy all the recently departed, including Pipsa, Peter and your faithful servant Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

May the explosive power of the resurrection break through the doors of grief, bringing comfort to all who mourn, including The Queen and the Royal Family.

May we all find the fullness of your love for us in the empty tomb.

Merciful Father

accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son

our Saviour, Jesus Christ

Amen
