Prayers of Intercession - Parish Carol Service

Madonna and Child, Barbara Hepworth, 1954

Prayers written for the Parish Carol Service at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 17th December 2020 inspired by lines from famous Christmas Carols.

O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel! Shine your everlasting light upon the dark streets of the world.
As we await your coming, help us, your faithful people, to turn our lives towards the light and life you bring. Be born in us anew each day. Fill us with the truth of your Word and the confidence to share this great and glorious gift with others.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer.

Hail the heaven born prince of peace! Hail the son of righteousness! Grant wisdom to the leaders of the world so that all nations may rise to proclaim your glory, casting out sin and entering in to a new era of justice and prosperity for all. We pray for peace in The Holy Land, peace among nations, peace in our homes and peace in our hearts as we celebrate the birth at Bethlehem of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer.

Be near us, Lord Jesus. We ask you to stay close by to all those most in need of your loving presence. The homeless, the poor, the oppressed. All who are sick and suffering as a result of the coronavirus. Those who have lost their livelihoods and all who are struggling financially and anxious about the future. We pray for our families and friends, near and far. Bless all those in your tender care especially those who have joined you in your eternal kingdom.

Merciful Father
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen
