Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 1

The Great Commission by James He Qi

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 18th June 2020 (Trinity 1) based on Matthew 9.35-10.8.

Let us pray

When Jesus saw the crowds, he looked with compassion on them, because they were helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

We pray for all who follow the Great Shepherd, Jesus Christ;
May the compassionate gaze of God continually inspire us in our lives and mission.
Lord, help us to break down that which separates us from one another and from you,
that knowing your forgiveness we may share your love with a needy world.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray for those who shoulder the burden of responsibility in the church and in the world, this nation and this City.
May your Holy Spirit guide them in their decision-making as the lockdown begins to ease.
Strengthen and comfort all who are preparing to return to work or school, especially those who are nervous about doing so and all who are worried about their livelihoods.
Lord, you said to the disciples “the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few”.
Help us all to dedicate our labours today and every day, to your service.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

In this Refugee Week, we pray for all those who have no place to call their own;
Lord, look with mercy on all who today are fleeing from danger, homeless and hungry.
Bless those who work to bring them relief;
inspire generosity and compassion in all our hearts;
and guide the nations of the world towards that day when all will rejoice in the plentiful harvest of justice and peace in your Kingdom.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ,
you went about all the cities and villages proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and sickness.
Especially in this time of anxiety, let it be our mission to follow your example,
caring for those in need as you care for us,
comforting the fearful, tending the sick,
assuring the isolated and all those who mourn
of our love, and your love.
We bring before you Martin and Sam, Patrick, Melvyn, Kim, Nick, Amelia, Dorothy, Sue, Sofia and Freddy and all those known only to us.
Lord, surround them with your love,
and guide them by your Spirit.

Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
