Reflection on Psalm 96

The Lagoon from the illustrated book Jazz by Henri Matisse, 1947
A haiku based on Psalm 96

Sing our song of love
In concert with all the earth.
Keep on practising.

Prayer

We worship you, God of all creation,
through whose breath all things were made.
The cry of a baby, the clouds in the sky, even the patterns in the rocks all resonate with your spirit.
Teach us to sing this song of love.
Let us practice it afresh each day as new disciples.
We know we can never perfect its harmony or rhythm
  because only you are perfect;
But you love us all the same.

Reading

“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment.

(Matthew 22.36-38)
