Christ as Redeemer of Man, William Blake, 1808 |
Prayers of Intercession written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 25th November 2021 (Year B, Christ the King) based on readings from Daniel 7.9-10, 13,14 and John 18.33-37
Let us pray to our God and King, the source of life and truth.
Almighty God our Father, help us to listen to the truth of your word and hear your call to act upon it;
modelling our lives on the example of your Son, in whose image we were made.
We pray for the church gathered here and around the world. With the guidance of your Ministers and inspired by your Spirit, may we serve you with humility; mindful of our own power and how we use it; modelling the values of thy kingdom and not our own,
so that all the world in every corner may sing “My God and King!”
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Almighty God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, help all in positions of authority and influence on earth to listen to the truth of your peace.
Help us to tune out the static of our own voices so that we might hear more clearly the whispers of those speaking your truth to earthly power; seeking reconciliation wherever there is discord and advocating environmental, social and political justice.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Almighty God our Great Shepherd, help us to listen to the truth of your love.
Release us from the echo chambers that imprison our hearts so that we might recognise your likeness in the face of all around us.
We pray for those offering hospitality to migrants and refugees.
May we have the courage to become social poets; weaving our dreams together to create a new chapter in the story of this great City; inspired by your eternal love.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Almighty God, the Great Physician, help all who are in pain this day to listen for your healing word. We pray for those who are sick and suffering, remembering by name; William, Mark, Andrew and family, Sally, Tom, Carol, Francine, Sophia, Sarah, Anthony, Melissa, Caroline, Emma, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, Jim, Nick, John, Martin and Sam ; and in silence we speak the names of all those written on our hearts who are in particular need of your merciful loving kindness today.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Almighty God, King of Glory, may all who are in need of comfort listen to your word of eternal life.
Welcome into your heavenly splendour all the faithful departed.
As we await the day when the Son of Man will come again, guide us to become a living sacrament, offering our sacrifice of thanks and praise on the hearts of those we serve.
Merciful Father
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son
our Saviour, Jesus Christ,
Amen
