Further Prayers for Morning Prayer on Wednesday 14th July

Vision of Ezekiel, David Bomberg, 1912 (Tate Gallery)

Further prayers written for Morning Prayer (BCP) at St Stephen Walbrook on Wednesday 14th July 2021.

From the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, Chapter 12:

‘Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.’

Almighty God,
who sent the prophet Ezekiel to forewarn thy chosen people of exile from the Holy City,
Grant us the wisdom to discern your truth in all that we see and hear this day;
Make us attentive to the word of those you have sent as your messengers;
and by thy grace, clothe us in humility that we might repent and live obediently, by the example of thy Son and for the glory of thy Kingdom.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen

From Psalm 72 :

‘Give the King thy judgements, O God * and thy righteousness unto the King’s son.
Then shall he judge thy people according unto right * and defend the poor.’

Almighty God,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
enliven the minds of all earthly rulers with thy Spirit of truth;
that they might govern with justice and righteousness,
bringing relief to thy people enduring a poverty of spirit, poverty of riches and poverty of hope;
and defend us, thy servants, from judging others by our own standards and not yours.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen

From St Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 8

‘now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality.’

Almighty God
whose abundance of love brought the world into being; whose abundance of life overcame death;
release your gift of generosity in us, thy grateful people,
that we might share our time, our talents and our compassion with those in need.
We pray especially for Margaret, Anthony, Melissa, Georgina, Shelley, Caroline and Manuelle, Emma, John, Vanessa, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, John, Jim, Nick, Martin and Sam.
Comfort them in the knowledge that through thine infinite mercy all shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen
