Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 2

Jesus Carrying the Cross by Salvador Dali, 1965

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 25th June 2020 (Trinity 2) based on readings from Romans 6.1b-11 and Matthew 10.24-39.

Let us pray

In baptism we are united with Christ through his death and resurrection, so that we too might walk in newness of life.

God our Father, may your Spirit daily renew the mission of your church. We pray for all bishops, priests and deacons; may they teach us to see the world anew. Lord, help us to overcome our fear as we walk into the dark corners of our lives; to hear the stories of those we meet there and to walk with them into your light, proclaiming the message of your Good News and pointing always to you.

Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our Father, through the life, death and resurrection of your Son, each one of us has been brought into a new relationship with you and with all your glorious creation. You even know the number of the hairs on our heads. As the lockdown ends, help us to ensure that the ‘new normal’ means being more attentive to our intimate relationship with each other and with you. To see those living on our deserted streets; the flora and fauna now flourishing in unpolluted habitats.

We pray that the leaders of the world, this nation and this City may be guided by your Spirit; transforming unjust structures, unsustainable practices and inequitable relationships. Help us, with them, to bring peace, justice and harmony to all.

Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our Father, your son suffered on the cross for our sake. Grant us the courage to take up our cross and follow Him; the way, the truth and the life.

We pray for all who are anxious and fearful and for all who are sick. May the presence of the risen Christ bring comfort to them. We pray especially for Martin and Sam, Patrick, Melvyn, Kim, Nick, Dorothy, Sue, Sofia and Freddy, for Liam, Eileen, Ann, Matt, Sarah, Amelia and Phoebe and for all those known only to us.

Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We give thanks for the faithful who have endured suffering in this world and have entered into rest. We pray for the family, friends and all those who mourn the death of Brenda and of Mark. Receive them into the joy of heaven, in the company of Stephen, John the Baptist and all the saints.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
