Further Prayers written for Morning Prayer on Wednesday 22nd September

An Illuminating Path, David LaChapelle, 1998

Further prayers written for Morning Prayer according to the Book of Common Prayer, held by telephone conference call from St Stephen Walbrook on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 and based on readings from Mark 13.1-13, Wisdom 13.1-9 & Psalm 107.
From the Gospel according to Saint Mark:

But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Almighty God, who spake the world into being and by whose Word it was saved;
may our tongues be guided by thy Holy Spirit this day;
that we might answer ‘yes’ to thy call, ‘I do’ to our vows;
respond with thy words of love wherever we find hatred;
declare peace wherever we encounter discord.

Bless all who are anxious or uncertain about which words to use this day;
all who preach the Good News in word and deed, especially those who do so at risk to themselves and their families.

We pray for Ben and Rosanna and all who are preparing to declare vows of marriage.

May thy eternal Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.
In the name of thy Living Word, Jesus Christ,
Amen

From the Wisdom of Solomon :

Surely vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of God, and could not out of the good things that are seen know him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the workmaster.

Generous God, who crownest the year with thy goodness,
Grant us the courage to turn away from our selfishness and vanity;
to calculate the real cost of our lifestyle on ourselves, each other and the world around us, so that we might be more effective stewards of it.
Open our eyes to see our true nature - the value and source of our blessings.
By the guidance of your Holy Spirit may we use these wisely to grow in the likeness of your Son,
Our Saviour, Jesus Christ,
Amen

From Psalm 107 :

So they cried unto the Lord in their trouble * and he delivered them from their distress

Living God, source of our strength,
who hears the cries of all who turn to you in distress;
bring companionship to the lonely, restoration to the sick and comfort to those who suffer.

We ask for your loving care and protection especially this morning for Tim, Victor, Tom, Carol, Francine, Sophia, Jummie, Sarah, Anthony, Melissa, Caroline and Manuelle, Emma, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, Jim, Nick, Martin and Sam.

We pray for all those we love but see no longer. Grant them your eternal peace. May those who mourn find consolation in thy continuing presence.

In the name of Jesus Christ who suffered for us and the Holy Spirit who continually strengthens us,
Amen.
