Prayers of Intercession - That We May All Be One

Prayers written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 20th May 2021 (Year B, Easter 7) based on readings from John 17.6-19

Let us pray to God our Father as His Son prays for us;

Almighty God, you sent your Son into the world and He has sent us;
Sanctify your church, it’s ministers and all the faithful as they walk alongside your people, sharing life in this world in all its fullness, whilst pointing always towards the joy of the world to come;
Strengthen us by your Word; especially when we encounter hatred and rejection;
Lead us each day away from temptation and towards you; 

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Loving God, you sent your son into the world to die for us, so that the world through him might be saved;
Guide us towards fulfilment of your will; that we may be one, as you are one.
We pray for peace in the Holy Land;
that violent acts between peoples may be replaced by the embrace of friendship.
By your grace transform fear into trust, despair into hope, hatred into love.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Generous God, all we have, all we are and all we are yet to receive is sent by you.
Protect us from our own selfishness; guard us against complacency that the “new normal” will be like the old.
Help us to remember that we pray for thy kingdom, not ours, to come;
and as we journey there, may those who lead, live, work and all who love this city and this parish, strive to ensure that no one is lost or left behind.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Living God, you sent your Son to be a light in the darkness;
we pray in your name for the protection of all who are sick and suffering,
especially Johan, Caroline and Manuelle, John, Vanessa, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, John, Kim, Nick, Martin & Sam
and all those whose names are written on our own hearts.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Eternal God, whose Son glorified the world by His presence;
receive into your eternal glory all the faithful departed, including Anthony Powell.
Comfort all who mourn with the blessed hope that,
at the last hour and by your mercy,
we will all be one.

Merciful Father
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen
