BOOK REVIEW-Endell Street. The Women who ran Britain’s Trailblazing Military Hospital

Based on research from numerous sources and woven together into an engaging narrative, this former Radio Four ‘Book of the Week’ by Wendy Moore tells the story of the Endell Street Military Hospital – the only hospital in England ever to be run and staffed entirely by women, located in the parish of St Giles-in-the-Fields. Wendy Moore will be giving a talk for The St Giles Society on Wednesday 20th November 2024 at 7pm at St Giles-in-the-Fields. Tickets £5 available at this link.

On the evening of Advent Sunday - a day when we turn our hearts and minds to new beginnings, it was announced that, following my ordination as a Deacon in July next year, The Bishop of London has invited me to serve as Curate at the parish of St Giles-in-the-Fields, with The Reverend Captain Thomas Sander as my training incumbent; an invitation that I could not refuse!

Leaving the spectacular St Stephen Walbrook after seven glorious years will be a wrench, but I won’t be going far away. Whilst based full time at St Giles, my training will involve popping up elsewhere from time to time, including the neighbouring parish of St George’s Bloomsbury.

Tom asked me to write a short intro blurb about myself for the parish bulletin:

The Lighting of the Tower!

On Sunday 30th September 2018 I attended a special Choral Evensong at St-Giles-in-the-Fields at which the Bishop of London switched on new lights that illuminate the tower. I was interviewed by Will Strickson, an MA Journalism Student at City University, who asked me questions about the service:
