Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 9

The Hand of God by Yongsung Kim

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 13th August 2020 (Year A Trinity 9/Proper 14) based on readings from
Matthew 14.22-33 and Romans 10.5-15

St Paul tells us that all who confess with their lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead will be saved. Let us then bring the thoughts of our hearts to our Lord and Saviour in prayer.

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news! We pray for the church throughout the world, for all Bishops, Priests and Deacons, for all disciples of Christ who bring Good News. Almighty God, strengthen our faith. May our eyes be forever fixed upon the loving gaze of our Lord and Saviour as we tread the stormy waters of life.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord, we pray for those who are fearful of losing their power and status and all who live in fear of those in authority. Grant wisdom and courage to the leaders of the world, this nation and this city; that, guided by your Spirit, they may lead us through times of darkness into the light of your love. Inspired by the vision of your Kingdom, help us all to build a future that is greater than our past.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord, you are generous to all who call upon you. Inspire us to be generous with our time, talents and our love. Help us not to be fearful of reaching out to those in need. We pray for all whose lives are scarred by anxiety for themselves or for a loved-one. For those who are discouraged and see no future. For all gripped by the fear of isolation. For those whose relationships have been broken by cruelty and discord. For all crying out to be saved. Lord, we bring before you especially this day all refugees those who have been forced from their homes; the people of Beirut; all who have received exam results today. Help them to loosen their hold on fear and find peace in your presence.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord, we pray for all who are sick, especially those who fear death. For all who have been affected by the Coronavirus. Comfort those who mourn and are overwhelmed with grief. We pray especially for Melvyn, Patrick, Ian, Martin and Sam, Sophia and Freddie, Sue, Amelia, Sarah, Liam, Emma and David. Reach out and hold them close to you, bring them comfort and assurance in your love.

In the company of St Stephen and all the saints in heaven, we pray.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
