Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 6

Image from the Tacuinum Sanitatis Casanatense, Fourteenth Century

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 23rd July 2020 (Trinity 6/Proper 11) based on the Gospel Reading from Matthew 13.24-30, 36-43; the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares.

Almighty God, you sent your Son into the world to sow the seed of faith; that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Grant us the courage to search the fields of our lives; to notice the wheat and the tares. Help us to nurture the good in ourselves, in others and in the world; to grow in His likeness each day.

We pray for the church, especially for all Bishops, Priests and Deacons. Guided by your spirit may they help to nurture the roots of our faith; to guide us toward the kingdom of heaven. Lord, we pray that the ears of all our brothers and sisters may be open to your presence; to hear the Good News of your unconditional love, unchanging purpose and unending mercy.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us

Merciful God, forgive us for the faults that everyone sees and for those known only to you; when we seek to uproot those we believe do not belong; when we condemn others rather than accepting them for who they are. Guide us by your spirit to love all your people, especially those we find hard to love.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us

Creator God, you breathed life into us and made us gardeners of the earth. We pray for all those seeking to grow a better life for others. For all in positions of responsibility and authority in our nation, our city, our workplaces and in our homes. Help us to be generous to those who need our support to flourish – and to recognize and accept with humility the times when our branches need to be clipped, to enable us to thrive.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us

Loving God, we hold before you all those whose lives are linked to ours, especially for the sick and those tending to their needs, for all affected by the Covid virus. We pray especially for Melvyn, Patrick, Ian, Martin and Sam, Sophia and Freddie, Sue, Amelia, Sarah, Liam, Emma, David, Dominic and Henry and for all those known only to us. Hold them close to you, bring them comfort and assurance in your love.

Lord hear us
Lord graciously hear us

Eternal God, we commend to your mercy all who have died, including Mario Rodriquez, that your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray that we may shine with the righteous and with all your saints, like the sun in your eternal kingdom.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
