Treasure in Heaven-Prayers of Intercession

Praise for God (For J S Bach) by Robert Natkin 1967
These prayers of intercession were written for St Pancras Church on Sunday 11th August 2019 and are based on Genesis 15.1-6 & Luke 12.32-40 with a few references to the Feast of the Transfiguration which was celebrated on Tuesday. It is a great pleasure to be able to help out at other churches during the holiday season.

Jesus said “it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Let us take pleasure in giving thanks for this gracious gift, by directing every moment of our lives to God, who is Lord and Master of all.

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord God, you have called us to be alert and ready to fulfill your command. By the power of the Holy Spirit, strengthen the leaders of your church throughout the world. With their guidance may we be dressed for action; clothed in the love of Christ, with our lamps of faith lit by prayer and study of the scriptures.

Grant wisdom to our Bishops Sarah and Robert and Archbishop Angaelos of the Coptic Church who worship here. May they always look heavenward as they shepherd their flock. Help them to bring your gospel of peace and justice to all. We pray for the day when all may be free to worship you without fear of oppression.

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord Jesus you have taught us not to fill our hands with earthly possessions; clinging to power and status, but to empty them; opening our arms as wide as you did on the cross, so that we may be ready to receive the unfailing treasure in heaven. We pray that all those in positions of authority may do likewise, modeling their lives on your life; that of a servant king.

We give thanks for all who are working to support those at the margins and on the edge in this parish, this City and the world. Give us the courage to support them in prayer and action, for where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer

God our Protector, you are our shield under whom we have no fear. May this strength enable us to be radical in the use of all we possess; our time, our talents and our love. May we shine as lights in the world, acting as faithful stewards of your creation and bringing hope to all those who suffer.

We pray that your healing hands will fall upon all our brothers and sisters who are sick in mind, body and spirit this day.

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Generous God, we look forward to the day when our hearts may be united with you in heaven, where we will join all the faithful departed to sit and eat at your divine banquet. We pray for those who are close to death, for the recently departed and for those whose years mind falls at this time.

Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer

In the company of St Pancras, St Mellitus, the Virgin Mary and all the saints in heaven, we pray.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
