Prayers of intercession written for the Sung Eucharist at St George’s Bloomsbury on Sunday 18th May 2025 (Easter 5, Year C) based on the text of Acts 11.1-19, Revelation 21.1-6 & John 13.31-35. The service was followed by the Annual Parish Meeting.
In union with the church throughout the world, let us pray to
Almighty God.
Loving
God, you have made us in your image.
Your
radical hospitality amazes and inspires us,
accepting us through baptism for who we are, where we are and what
we know.
Each
one of us is unique, with our own story of salvation to tell.
We
give thanks for the radical gospel of your son, Jesus Christ, for his
unconditional love and for the mission he has entrusted to us - to share that love with one another;
for the rich
heritage and traditions of your church throughout the world,
We pray for the continuing flourishing of this parish church, for its clergy
and people and for the community it serves.
Though
we are many, through your love you have made us one;
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
Loving
God, forgive us when we fail to see your image in each other and in the world
around us,
when
we give in to greed and indifference,
when
we promote division in what we think or say or do;
for
that look of disgust and revulsion instead of a look of love.
Guide
us as we seek to build a world of justice, peace and love.
To
share what you have done for us,
and
to learn from what you do through others,
As
we are made in your image, help us to live in your image.
We pray for an end to conflict and violence between peoples and especially at
this time for relief for those in the Holy Land, Ukraine, Yemen and Sudan.
Though we are many, through your love you have made us one;
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
Loving
God, we thank you for all that makes us unique,
For
our gifts and talents,
the
experiences that have shaped us and for the people we have shared them with.
And
we praise you for what we share - your eternal love.
We
bring before you those known to us who are in particular need today, especially
{n} - and we pray for those whose names are written only on our own
hearts.
We
ask for your blessing upon all who are mourning the loss of loved ones and
those whose years mind falls at this time.
Help
us to bring comfort to all in despair as witnesses to
the Good News of the risen Christ as we walk together to his heavenly kingdom, where there will
be no mourning nor crying nor pain.
Merciful
Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your son, our saviour, Jesus
Christ. Amen.
