Prayers of Intercession - Dreams and Wonders

The Dream, Marc Chagall, 1931

Prayers of Intercession for Morning Prayer on Saturday 5th November 2022 at St Augustine’s College of Theology, based on text from Daniel 4.1-18 and Revelation 4.

The prayers of intercession this morning take the form of a litany. The response to each petition is “We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.”

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity, three persons and one God;

   make us, your children, ever attentive to the vision of your kingdom;

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

May this College and your Holy Church be a place where dreams and wonder are exchanged; where your divine mystery and power is honored and glorified;

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

We give thanks for the saints and martyrs and the witness of all those gathered around your heavenly throne; may the brightness of this delightful vision shine through all we think, say and do this day;

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

May the agony of your passion and the promise of your resurrection bring hope to your children living through the nightmare of war.

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Send messengers of truth to all who abuse their positions of power; may your vision of unity, peace and concord release us from pride, envy, hatred and malice.

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Open our ears to the blessed prophets of our own day, to whom your Word has been revealed; grant us the courage to join with them, singing your song of love for all your glorious creation;

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Comfort your children who are cold and hungry, afraid to sleep, unable to dream of a better future; may your streams of righteousness deliver us from the clutches of terror and oppression.

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Release from anguish all whose dreams are interrupted by worry and anxiety about the future; may the knowledge of your presence lighten their burden and still their hearts and minds.

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

May all who are sick and suffering this day place their trust in your vision of hope; where the weak find strength, broken hearts are made whole and those who are brought low are raised up, into your light;

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Send your angels to minister to those who mourn; may they find solace by joining with all the faithful departed in this wonderful song of praise:

‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,
   to receive glory and honour and power,
for you created all things,
   and by your will they existed and were created.’

R: We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Amen.
