Prayers of Intercession - Fishers of People

Prayers of Intercession written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 10th February 2022 (Proper 1, Year C) based on the text of Luke 5.1-11 and drawing on the Coronation Vows and the Queen’s Accession Day message. 

 

Let us pray to Almighty God, that the abundance of his love might be known throughout all the world.

In your Holy Church may we hear your call
to cast our nets wide and become fishers of people.
We pray for all who profess the Gospel and uphold your statutes; may those who receive your Word repent of their sins and turn to follow you. 
Let us all vow to be defenders of the faith. 

Lord in thy mercy,
Hear our prayer 

In every nation of the world may we hear your call
to plumb the depths; revealing the still waters of your truth beneath the waves of self-interest. 
We pray for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, for her government and all those in authority; grant them the courage to take risks for the sake of lasting peace.
Let us all vow to honour your righteous judgement. 

Lord in thy mercy,
Hear our prayer 

In every part of this City may we hear your call
to work in partnership for the common good.
We pray for the Port of London Authority, for the River Police, the RNLI and all who make their living on the water. 
May your living waters break the anchor of our pride and draw us to humility by the current of your grace; 
help us to share our privilege and our resources equitably with one another.
Let us vow that our lives will always be devoted to your service.

Lord in thy mercy,
Hear our prayer 

In times of sickness and suffering may we hear your call
to remain faithful to you even when our lives seem empty and unfulfilled.
We remember by name those for whom our prayers have been asked, including Sandra, Sarah, Sophia, Kim, William, Mark, Andrew and family, Sally, Tony, Tom, Carol, Francine, Anthony, Caroline, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, Jim, Nick, John, Martin and Sam;
We pray for their comfort and for the strength of all those who care for them.
Let us vow to be beacons of your hope amidst the storms of despair.

Lord in thy mercy,
Hear our prayer 

In our mourning may we hear your call
to honour those who have left this world behind and followed you to another shore. 
We pray for the recently departed and those whose years mind falls at this time. 
Let us vow to live our lives to the glory of your name, for the good of all who sail in our wake. 

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers 
for the sake of thy Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
