Prayers of Intercession - The Great Family of Faith

Family Group, Henry Moore, 1949, cast 1950-51

Prayers of Intercession written for the Sung Eucharist at St George’s Bloomsbury on Sunday 3rd October 2021 (Year B, Trinity 18, Proper 22) based on readings from
Mark 10.2-16 and Hebrews 1.1-4, 2.5-12 and Psalm 8 and phrases from the sermon given by Reverend David Peebles.

Let us pray.

Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, whose Son called all whom you have sanctified his brothers and sisters,
We pray for unity of purpose among the Church, our worldwide family of faith.
By your Spirit, enliven the ministry of our Bishops, Priests and Deacons;
Strengthen the faith of all who proclaim your name and praise you in the midst of the congregation; especially those who do so under the threat of violence and persecution.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Generous God, who has granted us stewardship over your glorious creation;
Grant wisdom to the leaders of the world, this nation and this city, that they might set aside cynicism, prejudice and distrust and see the world through the eyes of a child;
Revelling in the joy and beauty of the earth that you have blessed through the incarnation of your Son.
Help us to live in harmony with the natural world; seeking to bring an end to climate change, habitat depletion and the suffering this causes. We pray for all affected by famine, food insecurity and malnutrition, especially at this time the people of Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Living God, whose Son lived, died and rose again to restore our relationship with you, we pray for all those whose lives are linked to ours; our families, friends and neighbours.
Be near to all who are experiencing relationship difficulties and those closest to them; grant them wisdom, patience and respect.
Smooth the hardness of our hearts in the eternal wellspring of your divine love so that we may live in loving communion with all our brothers and sisters as your Body on earth.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Loving God, whose Son is the image of your glory; the imprint of your very being and sustains all things by his powerful word,
Send your healing Spirit so that we might speak your words of comfort to all who are sick and suffering this day; all affected by the Covid virus; all who are near to the point of death.
We pray especially for Father Ronald, Sue, Angela and for all those known only to us. Hold them close to you, may they rest in the assurance of your love.

Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer

Eternal God, whose Son tasted death for everyone and is now crowned with glory and honour, we commend to your mercy all whom you have received into glory including Andrew Sinclair
.
We pray for his partner Scott.
Comfort all who mourn with the knowledge that, by your grace, at the last, we may be reunited with the faithful departed and all the saints and angels in the loving embrace of your heavenly family.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen.
