Prayers of Intercession written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook on Thursday 2nd September 2021 ((Year B, Trinity 13, Proper 17) based on readings from Mark 7.1-8, 14, 15, 21-23 and James 1.17-end.

Let us pray to Almighty God, whose love for us is unchanging.

Lord, we pray for your church throughout the world and for its diverse ministries. Help us to remain faithful to your greatest commandment in our hearts and with our lips, putting the love of God and of our neighbour before our love of familiar traditions.

Lord, we ask for your blessing on all bishops, priests and deacons. May their teaching and example inspire us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger; to help us to to hold a mirror to our lives and remind us what we look like – reflections of your divine image.

Lord in thy mercy
Hear our prayer

We pray for relief for all who are suffering this day as a result of conflict, natural disasters, climate change and the coronavirus.

Lord, your love for us shows no variation or shadow. Help us to be consistent in our love for you and for each other. Ignite the flame of your eternal love in our hearts so that we may shine as your light in the world.

Lord, you are the living Word; speak through our actions. Grant us the courage to welcome those in need; to share what we have; to act justly, love mercy walk humbly with you, our God.

Lord in thy mercy
Hear our prayer

Today, on the anniversary of the start of the Great Fire of London, we pray especially for all in this City and for its continuing transformation. We pray for all of those facing times of transformation in their lives; embarking on new programmes of study, new jobs or contracts and all those preparing for marriage.

Lord, you have taught us that there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile. Grant us the wisdom not to judge by what we see on the outside. To see the human beings not the headlines. To see your image in the face of all those we meet.

Lord, you are the living Word. Help us to transform this City into a place which speaks only of your love for all your people.

Lord in thy mercy
Hear our prayer

We pray for all who are sick and are in need this day.

Lord you have taught us to accept the seed of your word which has the power to save our souls. May all those who are sick and suffering find comfort in your loving presence.

We pray especially for Anthony, Melissa, Caroline and Manuelle, Emma, John, Vanessa, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, Jim, Nick, Martin and Sam and all those whose names are written only on our own hearts.

Lord in thy mercy
Hear our prayer

We pray for the faithful departed and for all those who mourn.

Lord, you have shown us that every good gift is from above. We give thanks for the loving service of all the faithful departed who you have welcomed in to your eternal kingdom.

Lord, help us to be doers who act; by caring for all those who are bereaved and in distress.

Lord in thy mercy
Hear our prayer

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of thy Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
