The Hem of His Garment by Iain Campbell

Prayers written for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 9th June 2021 (Year B, Fourth after Trinity) based on readings from 2 Corinthians 8.7-end and Mark 5.21-end and drawing on texts from Prayers for Wholeness and Healing published by the Church of England.

Let us pray to God our Father, that His Church and this world might be guided by the example of His Son and transformed by the healing power of His Spirit. 

 

Almighty God, you sent your Son into the world so that we might have life. May we, the Body of Christ, your church, live the life you have given to us excellently; excelling in faith, in generosity and in our love for you and for each other. We pray for all Bishops, Priests and Deacons and for those being ordained at this time. 

By your Spirit, send all who have been healed by your touch to act as your hands and feet on earth, bringing relief to all who suffer.

 

Lord in your mercy 

Hear our prayer 


Living God, who breathed all life into being; forgive us for the damage we have inflicted upon your glorious creation. 

Look with mercy upon your people; 

especially those desensitized to environmental damage; indifferent to its consequences.

Through His death and resurrection your Son has restored to wholeness all that has been broken by human sin and brought us to new life; 

Let us live that life in peace and harmony with the whole world. 

 

Lord in your mercy 

Hear our prayer 


Generous God, whose Son, for our sakes, became poor so that by His poverty we might become rich, 

guide all in this parish community and this City to ensure your glorious abundance is shared fairly. 

Led by your Spirit, may we heal the divisions caused by inequality and injustice; 

Make us determined to step back; to allow those most in need to reach the front of the crowd; so that the power of their faith in you may touch our lives, as you have touched theirs.

Loving God, make well who are ill. Bless those whose hands work to heal others; our doctors, nurses and carers. At St Stephen Walbrook we ask for your blessing on the work of the Samaritans. We pray especially for all affected by the corona virus, for those for whom our prayers have been asked, including Georgina, Shelley, Caroline and Manuelle, Emma, John, Vanessa, Peter, Jennifer, Adrian and family, Melvyn, Ian, John, Jim, Nick, Martin and Sam and for all those in need whose names are written on our own hearts.

 

Lord in your mercy 

Hear our prayer 


Eternal God, receive with mercy all the recently departed. Comfort all in the darkness of grief by the light and warmth of your healing touch and the promise of your eternal love.  

 

Merciful Father

accept these prayers 

for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour, Jesus Christ

Amen.
