Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 15

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 24th September 2020 (Trinity 15/Proper 20) based on the Epistle (Philippians 1.21-end) and the Gospel Reading from Matthew 20.1-16.

Let us pray to Almighty God, that the mercy and justice of his Kingdom may be known throughout his church and the world.

 

We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ. Lord, help us all to live our lives in a manner worthy of the gospel. Open our eyes and ears to the places where your mercy and justice is needed. Use our souls and bodies to bring your faith, hope and love to the world.

 

We pray for our Bishops and all who lead the church. Guide them as they continue to work for your Kingdom during the pandemic. We give thanks for all church musicians and the joy and comfort they bring. We pray for your blessing on all who minister in your church, especially those who are being ordained at this time.

We pray for a cure to the Coronavirus and for the health and flourishing of all God’s people. 

 

We pray for the government, it’s scientific advisors and all who lead this nation and this City. Lord, may the difficult choices they have to make be guided by the vision of your Kingdom. May their labours be fruitful and help to bring about a more just and humane world for all people, all communities and the whole of creation. 

 

We pray for the freedom of all who have been unjustly accused or imprisoned without cause. May victim and perpetrator be drawn into the saving arms of your grace. Lord, we pray for your blessing on the work of the judiciary. By your grace help them to right the wrongs of this world. We pray especially for the work of John Garbutt, High Sherriff of Greater London, and his work overseeing the police service and the courts of this City.

We pray for all those who live and work in this City. For the sustainability of its businesses and enterprises. Lord, comfort all who are anxious about their livelihoods. We bring before you especially those working in the retail, cultural and hospitality sectors and those who do not receive a just wage for their work. Let us not be envious of those income is greater than our own.

 

We pray for all who create wealth. May their endeavours be guided not by what is profitable for some but for all - striving not only for fairness but for justice; in the knowledge that all we have and all that we are is not ours to give, but God’s – whose work for us and whose love of us is abundant and eternal.

We pray for relief for the suffering, comfort and peace for the sick and strength for all who minister to them. Lord we pray especially at this time for Doris and Eve, David, Jane and Daisy, Shelley, Patrick, Martin and Sam, Sophia and Freddie, Sue, Amelia, Sarah, Liam, Emma and Michael and for Melvyn, Ian and John and all those whose names are written only on our own hearts.

Hear our prayer 

 

We pray for the repose of the souls of all who have departed to be with Christ, remembering especially those whose years mind falls at this time. May the souls of the just shine before us, guiding us towards the eternal Kingdom.  

 

In the company of St Stephen and all the saints, we pray.
