Prayers of Intercession - Trinity 11

Prayers of intercession for the Sung Eucharist at St Stephen Walbrook at 12.45pm on Thursday 27th August 2020 (Year A Trinity 11/Proper 16) based on readings from Matthew 16.13-20 and Romans 12.1-8.

Let us pray for the church, it’s one foundation Jesus Christ and the world which, through his life, death and resurrection, he saved.

Almighty God, bless all Bishops, priests and deacons, especially Sarah our Bishop and Luke our Archdeacon. May their ministry bear witness to the faith of St Peter, the rock on which your church was built. By their guidance may our lives be transformed by the love of Christ. Through their teaching may we too have the wisdom to recognise and the confidence to declare who Jesus Christ is; our Saviour, the Son of the living God.

Lord in your mercy

Hear our prayer

We who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members of one another. Lord, we bring before you our brothers and sisters who are anxious and lonely at this time. All who have been displaced by war and natural disasters. We pray for the relief of suffering in the aftermath of the explosion in Beirut. Lord, we ask your blessing for all working to bring an end to inequality and injustice.

Grant wisdom to the leaders of the world, this nation and all who work and live in this city. Help them to remember that whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven and whatever is loose on earth is loose in heaven. God our Saviour, give strength to those who find themselves tied up in knots and courage to those working to loosen them.

Hear our prayer

Lord, help us not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought. May we discern the gifts that you have so graciously given to each of us and to share these with generosity, diligence, compassion and cheerfulness. Give us grace to acknowledge you as our Messiah in all we do, and present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to your service.

Hear our prayer

Lord, we pray for all who are sick, for all who have been affected by the Coronavirus. We pray especially for Melvyn, Patrick, Ian, Martin and Sam, Sophia and Freddie, Sue, Amelia, Sarah, Liam, Emma and Michael. Reach out and hold them close to you, bring them comfort and assurance in your love.

Hear our prayer

Almighty God, we commend to your mercy all who have entered the gates of Heaven, that your will for them may be fulfilled. Keep us firm in the faith until we share with them in your eternal kingdom.

 

In the company of St Stephen and all the saints in heaven, we pray.

Merciful Father,

accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour, Jesus Christ
